MDM690 Week 4

Week 4 Reflection

What I am Thinking, feeling, & doing.

After just shy of 6 months in a skilled nursing/physical rehab facility, my wife came home. It was Friday, July 25th. On Tuesday, July 29th, I was supposed to meet my 79-year-old mother at a Neurology appointment. I was turning onto the little side street that led to a cluster of medical complexes. At the intersection, there was an accident that I must’ve missed by 30 seconds or so… I usually keep my eye’s on the road and don’t rubberneck and slow everyone behind me, this time I looked and it was my mom. People talk about how time slows down in situations like this; it’s true. I hastily and poorly parked my car on the curb and ran across the intersection. There was a guy in front of me, and I vaguely remember telling him to “get out of the way! I’m her son!”

So I had the week of summer break to finish my thesis, and it was off to a horrible start. For the record, I barely finished it before midnight on Sunday, the last day of summer break.

Here’s the photographic evidence. This is all I have energy for. I apologize in advance for Video 3 and Video 4 being subpar. Hopefully, you can understand why they are less-than-stellar.

Mom’s banged up pretty badly, but she is gonna be okay. She’ll have a couple of months in a skilled nursing place while her hand heals...

As for her little red car, not so much. I haven’t gotten the official verdict from her insurance, but my guess is that it’s not worth repairing.

⇧ I love the look on these two cops’ faces. Pictures don’t do it justice; it literally looks like someone scooped out the front part of the engine compartment. ⇧

Mom was making an unprotected left-hand turn, and the car in the background was going straight, flying through the intersection. They had the right of way, but they were going pretty fast and looking down. Still, they had the right of way.
